Cocoon Chair is the Gold Award Winner of A Design Awards 2018 in the A' Furniture, Homeware and Decor Items category. Cocoon Chair was inspired by how silkworm develops cocoon. Tim, the project designer, was surprised by how this little animal build it’s room by just using line. She then start to explore how to use line to construct form by follow cocoon’s building technique. This is how the project begin. Tim then try to use this new idea to develop a chair form which people can relax and feel comfortable when sitting on it. The woven line presents the texture of cocoon and the rocking motion is an experience of the floating nature of the cocoon. And minimal structure was considered based on the lightless feeling of the cocoon. The outcome is a minimal structure that represents a natural comfort form and it serves as a functional piece of furniture which called Cocoon.
